Alice Mae Tate

Ms. Alice Mae Tate, 88, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Rock Hill, SC.

Alice was born on March 21, 1935 to the late Melvin Erby and Sallie Erby Ashley in Rock Hill, SC.

Ms. Tate was educated in Rock Hill Public Schools. In 1957, she moved to New York after a year, she moved to Newark, NJ where she enrolled at Essex Community College and received her GED. She continued and earned enough credits to transfer to Adelphi University, Garden City, NY, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. Alice worked for New York State and High Park Gardens, Newark, NJ. She loved to travel to Rome, Spain and The Caribbeans with friends and family.

Alice was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Erby; mother, Sallie Ashley; son, Robert Tate; grandson, Calcius Tate; two brothers, Harrison Erby and Melvin Erby.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Tate, grandson, Robert W. Tate, two brothers, George and Tom Erby; one sister, Caldonia Shannon; one granddaughter, Tamika Tate; four great-grandchildren, Amira Allen, Tahira Tate, Kemal Tate and Amar Allen; two great-great grandchildren, Neveah. Tate and Raise Allen; best friend, Shirley Rush and host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
