Ms Ortega was born June 29, 1954. She was the daughter of the late Pearl Donovant Wherry and the granddaughter of the late Golden and Willie Donovant. She was preceded in death by her aunt Edna Donovant, sister Bettye Box, and brothers Derrick Donovant, Julius Donovant and John Wherry.
She was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School and attended South Carolina State University. Ms Ortega accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Pineville A.M.E. Church. She moved to California for several years and later joined Abiezer Baptist Church when she returned to Rock Hill.
She was employed by Piedmont Medical Center as a switchboard operator and retired after 20 plus years. She was affectionately known as “Tia” to her numerous nieces and nephews. Therefore, after retiring she spent her time loving and spoiling each of them indidually and collectively.
Ms Ortega is survived by her sisters Frankie Brown (Willie), Harriet McCoy (Harvey/Howard), Karen Wherry and Yolanda Melvin; brothers Terrance Wherry (Dawn), and Tyrae Wherry; her aunt Betty Jean Melvin; nieces Dee Burris (Stephen), Tai Stewart (Desmond), April Moore (Delmark), and Kyla Eloi; nephews Jermaine McCoy; Mica McCoy (Erica), Donnie McCoy, and DJ Donovant; great nieces Zoey Moore, Azariya McCoy, D’Ariya McCoy, Charlotte Rose Moore, Bettye Moore, Harlem Moore, Hazel Moore, and Harriet Moore; great nephews William Moore, Myles McCoy, Solomon Moore, King Massey,Julius Moore, John Paul Moore and Hendrixx Moore; sisters-in-law Matilda Pascascio, Paulina Harris Pascascio and Idel Ortega Pascascio and a dear friend, Gwen Pearson. She also leaves countless family and friends to mourn her loss.
