Mrs. Bertha Mae “Bert” Wilmore-Booker, age 75, was born on November 23, 1950, in Chester, South Carolina, to the late James C. Wilmore, Sr., and Ella Mae Owens. She peacefully departed this life on January 12, 2026.
Bertha was educated in the Chester County School System and later graduated from the University of North Carolina. She continued her academic pursuits in Washington, DC, earning multiple Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Highly educated and dedicated, she built a distinguished career with the Department of the Navy, serving as a Purchasing Agent until her retirement.
An avid learner and world traveler, Bertha lived life fearlessly and on her own terms. Her presence brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth to those around her. She possessed a nurturing spirit and was known for her love of caring for others, especially children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barry Lee Booker of Paterson, New Jersey, a retired Navy Captain; her brother, Ralph O. Wilmore; and her brother, Terry Owens.
Bertha leaves to cherish her memory her only child, daughter Shawn Cade of Atlanta, Georgia; five brothers, James C. Wilmore, Jr., Ronald C. Wilmore (Roxann), Allen Ray Wilmore, Sr., William Reginald Wilmore, and Clarence D. Wilmore; two sisters, Mary Alice Woodward (Bobby) and Carolyn C. Wilmore; brother-in-law John Swindler; nephew/cousin Travis Colbert; Niece/cousin Ella Addision; Nieces Louise Caldwell and Tamara Caldwell; and a host of nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
She lovingly helped care for and nurture many children, including her nieces Addison Stafford and Aylah Stafford, and her god-granddaughter, Mylah Walker. She also embraced a cherished extended family, including Charlie Cade and Family, James Kelly, Shederick Hodges, Toi Walker, and Kay Legree, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
