Mrs. Bessie Mae McCollum was a shining light of faith, strength, and kindness who enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on August 16, 1930 in Horry County, South Carolina, A devoted wife, Mrs. McCollum shared 64 beautiful years of marriage with her late husband, Mr. John McCollum, until his passing. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and a family legacy that will continue to inspire those who follow in their footsteps.
Mrs. McCollum's love for God was the foundation of her life. She found solace and strength in her deep and abiding faith, which she lived out daily through her actions, her words, and her service to others. Her home was more than a house; it was a sanctuary of peace and warmth where faith and family were at the heart of every gathering.
Her passion for flowers and gardening reflected her nurturing spirit and love for God's creation. She found immense joy and tranquility in tending to her garden, transforming her yard into a vibrant sanctuary of beauty where family and friends would gather to celebrate life's simple pleasure.
Inside her home, her love of flowers continued, as she filled every space with reminders of God's natural wonders, creating a haven of serenity and joy.
A lifelong resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Mrs. McCollum was a proud retiree of Springs Industries in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Her dedication to hard work was matched only by her boundless compassion for others. She had a remarkable gift for caring, which she extended into her actions, whether it was baking her much-loved fruit cakes for friends and neighbors, preparing meals, or simply offering a listening ear and a kind word. Mrs. McCollum's admiration to her church family at Cedar Grove Baptist Church was a testament to her unwavering faith. Her life of service and love reflected the teachings of Christ, and she was a beloved member of the congregation who will be deeply missed.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving family members, her sons Steve McCollum and Johnny McCollum, and two daughters, Virna Dean McCollum, all of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Tracy Mayes (Ulysses) of Lawton, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her brother, Sonny Parnell of Baltimore, Maryland; her sister, Mae Estzminger of Columbia, South Carolina; and her special niece, Mary Ellen Davis (Grover) of Foster City, California. Her love extended to her nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren all of whom she adored and cherished. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends from Cedar Grove Baptist Church also mourn her passing.
