Charlie Marion Robinson

October 31, 1945 — December 10, 2024

Mr. Charlie Marion Robinson, born October 31, 1945, in Chester County, South Carolina to Viola Gaston Robinson and Green Robinson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, after a long life of service to his family and community.

Charlie was a man of deep faith and gave his life to the Lord at an early at Mt. Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Fort Lawn, SC.

He was instrumental in the building of the current sanctuary and the church has been a very important part of the Gaston and

Robinson families for many, many years. He also attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Hill, SC and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. He recently became a member of Rock Grove African Methodist Zion Church in Rock Hill, SC.

Charlie attended Lando Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Finley High School where he graduated in 1964. He proudly Boaters to support his young family. Charlie was very ambitious and knew that a college degree was important, so at the age or 34 h graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. Charlie went on to work as an engineer at Siemens Westinghouse for 31 years until he retired in 2006. He worked his way up from the front line to the front office and was commended for his leadership and innovation.

After retiring, Charlie dedicated his life to service and his dedication to serving can be seen all over the city of Rock Hill and in the greater community. He was a founding member of the Central City Optimist Club where he served in every leadership role and some of them more than once. While in the Optimist Club, He was influential in the Celriver Basketball Classic that brought basketball teams from all over the region to compete for the title of Celriver Champions. The Classic raised thousands for scholarships and entertained basketball fans from far and wide. Charlie was a Life Member of the NAACP; a Finely High School Alumni and a long-standing member of the Masons Achieve 159 and the Eastern Star.

Charlie and several African American men in the city formed CHAPS, an investment group. The men created something that was unheard of at the time. They owned and managed property in Rock Hill and managed a diverse investment portfolio.

Charlie was an active citizen in Rock Hill, SC and served on several boards and commissions. He touched the lives of so many people. From coaching little league baseball to mentoring at elementary schools he was a role model for so many children and young men in the Rock Hill community.

In addition to all his work in the community, he was dedicated to his family. He was the best husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend anyone could ever have.

Charlie was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys Feely Robinson, his brother, John Green Robinson, sisters, Dorthy Robinson, Bertha Robinson Cherry, Francina Robinson and his granddaughter, Brittany Robinson Hill. He is survived by his brother Joe Lewis Robinson (Coretta) and his sister, Lucille R. Hooper (John); his sons, Gerald A. Robinson (Melanie), Steven R. Robinson; his daughter, Pamela R. Benjamin; Van J. Stitt III (Nicole), Janelle S. Morris and grandsons, Chase R. Benjamin and Parker R.

granddaughters, Tveisha Hairston. Gerica R. Talford (Jarvis), and Camille Morris: great grandchildren Kholias, Mia Rose and Carter; his nephews, nieces, cousins, a host of other relatives and friends, and best friend John Able.
