Mr. David Odell Long, 82, of 1120 Constitution Blvd., Rock Hill, South Carolina, was born November 29, 1940, to the late Ella Long and James Dunlap. He entered into eternal rest on September 1, 2023.
David attended Emmett Scott High School and briefly attended Friendship College. He began his career as a track driver at M. Lowenstein Corporation and worked as a dispatcher at Catawba Trucking until retirement.
Community was important to David. He served as Vice President for the Boyd Hill Community Association. He was also an active member of Shriners Menzel Temple #35. Lancaster Consistory #256, Four Cross Lodge #109 and Sterling Lodge #344.
He was a very active member of Ebenezer Baptist church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He later moved his membership to Gethsemane Church.
David loved to watch football, especially his Pittsburg Steelers. He also played Penuchle (cards) with a close-knit group of friends for over 40 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 62 years, Maggie Joan, two daughters, Gwen (Gary) Kennedy and Keely Long both of Rock Hill, SC; two sons, David Jr. (Donna) of Pikeville, NC and Troy (Karen) of Lexington Park, MD as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
