We celebrate the life and legacy of Annie R. Hickman, born August 4, 1952, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to the late Arleane Lamb and Nathan Reid Sr.

As a child, Annie enjoyed simple pleasures such as jumping rope and treasured her typewriter, reflecting an early curiosity and creative spirit. In her teens, she moved to the Bronx, New York, where she graduated from Dodge Vocational High School and later attended Borough of Manhattan Community College.

In 1977, Annie gave her life to Christ and joined Elizabeth Christian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she was baptized in Jesus' name under Reverend Mother Derris Cargile. Her faith became the foundation of her life and remained steadfast throughout.

Annie was first married to Johnnie Wilcher and became the devoted mother of two daughters, Lateef Paul and Roshona Wilcher, who were among her greatest joys. She later moved to the South, to Fort Mill, SC, where she continued her Christian service as a choir member, psalmist, and finance team member, faithfully using her gifts in ministry.

After her first marriage, she continued under the leadership of Apostle Phillip F. Cargile Sr., until her passing, led by Bishop Ruth A. Cargile, of the First Born Church of the Apostolic Faith, Rock Hill, SC.

Annie attended York Technical College and discovered a passion for serving individuals with special needs. She dedicated many years to the York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, where she worked faithfully until retirement.

Annie enjoyed sewing, landscaping, baking, and playing guitar. Whether creating, gardening, or worshipping through music, she shared love, creativity, and joy with all who knew her.

She was married three times and was preceded in death by her husband, Ace Hickman, whom she married on October 3, 2010. They shared a deep bond rooted in faith and devotion to God.

She is survived by her children: Lateef (John) Paul of Lancaster, South Carolina; Roshona Wilcher of Elgin, South Carolina; and John (Anitra) Hickman of Fort Mill, SC. She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Hickman.

Annie's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Tiauna Wilcher, Nijah Williams, Chasity Williams, Ayden McCleod, Jeremiah Banks, Carrigan Banks, Matthew Banks, Aniya (Austin) Howard, Dominique Hickman, Jordan Hickman (Ronisha), and Jonathan Hickman, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, including Kamilah Howard and Malachi Hickman, who brought her great joy.

She also leaves behind cherished godchildren: Brandon Jones, Donquese Jennings, Camille, Isaiah Murphy, Jamel Brown, and Lena C. Baxter.

She is survived by her siblings: sisters Marcella Williams, Jeannie King, Donna Reid, and Lateef Reid; and brothers Kenneth Reid Sr. and Anthony Reid Sr. She was preceded in death by her brothers Nathan Reid Jr. and Michael Reid Sr.

Annie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, servant's heart, and deep love for her family. Her life reflected perseverance, compassion, and devotion to God. Though she is deeply missed, her legacy of faith and love lives on in all who knew her.

Annie was 73 years old when she passed on July 31st, 2026.
