Doris Ann Barber McCullough, affectionately known as "Granny" by all who loved her, brought her bright light into this world on October 4, 1939. Born to the late Beatrice Drafton Barber and John Barber, Doris was raised with deep faith, and a spirit that could light up any room.

Doris was a proud graduate of Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill, SC. Always compassionate and driven to serve others, she completed training as a nurse's assistant at York General Hospital. Her journey later took her to Bronx, NY, where she excelled as a skilled butcher and meat packer at Pathmark for over 25 years. With her signature work ethic, sharp wit, and bold personality, she made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered up north.

Missing the warmth of her family, Doris returned to her roots in Rock Hill after her retirement. Never one to sit idle, she continued her labor of love in the food services department for the Rock Hill School District, retiring for a second time in 2016.

Upon her return home, she immediately reunited with her beloved Rock Grove AME Zion Church, where she served the Lord with gladness, style, and fierce dedication. Doris poured her soul into her church community. She served faithfully on the Kitchen Committee and was a proud member of the Parent Body and the South Carolina Conference Board. Most notably, her passion for ministry led her to become the president of the Rock Hill District Ushers for many years and earned her the deeply affectionate title of the "Mother of Rock Grove's Ushers."

Doris lived life out loud and on her own terms. Whether passionately cheering on her favorite wrestlers, keeping up with her soap operas, sharp-wittedly tackling crossword puzzles, or completely clearing the dance floor, she filled every room with pure joy. Above all, she was the ultimate matriarch. She dedicated her entire life to her family—cooking massive, delicious meals for them and showering them with a fierce, unmistakable love. Doris was, without question, the life of the party, and her presence was a gift.

On June 20, 2026 God whispered her name, and Doris peacefully made her glorious transition from labor to reward. Reunited with her in heavenly glory are her beloved husband, John Willie McCullough; her brothers, John D. Barber and John Barber Jr.; sisters, Rita B. Blake and Anna D. Thompson; and her darling son, Jonathan D. McCullough.

Her vibrant spirit and rich legacy of love will be carried on by her devoted family: her two loving daughters, Maria Sinkler (Gerald) and Andrea J. Barber, both of Rock Hill, SC; her adored sister, Mildred Douglas (the late John Douglas) of Rock Hill, SC; three grandchildren, Marvin Jermel Douglas (Jaqueline) and Gigi Douglas, both of Rock Hill, SC, and LaShawn Faucette (Arrey) of Alexandria, VA; her great-grandchildren, Aryanna Reid, Marlon Reid, Hannaniyah Douglas, Nehemiah Douglas, Kobe Jones, Gianna Jennings, Ari Faucette, and Trey Faucette; and her great-great-grandson, Elias Solorio-Mendoza.

She also leaves a legacy of love with her cherished brothers-in-law, Isaiah McCullough (Bleaker) and Theodore McCullough, both of Rock Hill, SC, and LeRoy McCullough of Reston, WA; and her sisters-in-law, Beatrice M. Whittaker (Reginald) and Doris A. McCullough.

Her memory will also be fiercely cherished by her niece, Mildred Logan of Rock Hill, SC; her nephew, Maurice L. Douglas of Rock Hill, SC; her great-nephew, Marion Leon Logan Jr. (Shokia); her great-great-nephews, Marion Leon Logan III and Brayden Logan; her great-great-niece, Leah Noel Logan, all of Lake Wylie, SC; as well as a massive, sorrowing host of extended family, church family and neighborhood friends who will miss her laughter, her cooking, and her beautiful spirit dearly.
