Eddie L. Bracey, Sr.

Elder Eddie Lee Bracey, Sr., of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 12, 2025. He was born in Kershaw County, South Carolina on February 10, 1932, the tenth child of fourteen children of the late Heyward and Ella Mae Alexander Bracey.

Eddie attended the local schools of Kershaw County and graduated from Jackson High School in Camden, South Carolina in 1952. After high school, he enrolled at Area Trade School in Denmark, South Carolina, where he received the Diploma in Barbering. He also attended York Technical College in Rock Hill, where he specialized in Machinery. On June 12, 1955, he and Mildred Loretta Copeland were married at the Second Presbyterian Church in Camden, South Carolina, with the Reverend Marion Sanders, Officiating. To this union, two sons were born: Eddie Lee Bracey, Jr. and Michael Julius Bracey. They were blessed with a grandson, Eddie Lee Bracey, III, who preceded him in death.

In 1956, he and Mildred moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina. Eddie was a Master Barber for eighteen years. He later became employed with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for twenty-seven years. In 1983, he became the Postmaster in Sharon, South Carolina, a position he held until he retired on February 27, 1999. In 1992, Eddie was named Postmaster of the Year for the entire state of South Carolina.

Shortly after moving to Rock Hill, they became active members of Hermon Presbyterian Church, where he was elected as an Elder. He also served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer. Additionally, he also volunteered with food drives and provided lawn care for many years. He devotedly served Hermon Presbyterian Church. Additionally, he volunteered his barbering services at local nursing homes.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his two sons, Eddie Lee Bracey, Jr., of the home; Michael Julius Bracey (Philip Reely) of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Cora B. Anderson and Mabel B. Duren, both of Camden, South Carolina; goddaughter, Karen Morris Peacock of Whitsett, North Carolina; best friend Jesse P. Frazier of Rock Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Eddie Lee Bracey, Sr. was a gentleman of integrity, dependability, and humility.
