Obituary

Elaine Inez Walker Johnson Denegal was born March 2, 1936 to Garfield Walker and Lora Freeman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She was raised in Aiken, South Carolina where she attended Schofield High School. She gave birth to four daughters before transitioning to Brooklyn, NY to make ends meet.

While living in Brooklyn, she remarried and welcomed another daughter. She had a long tenure working at Sweet N’ Low, always coming home with a story to tell. She worked various jobs afterwards before retiring and returning to Aiken, South Carolina to enjoy her golden years. During the pandemic, however, she did move to Rock Hill, South Carolina.

During her final years, Elaine got the chance to travel. She dreamt of going on cruises so that’s what she did. Elaine had the chance to visit the Bahamas and Mexico. During road trips to Florida, she would offer to drive – thanks but no thanks ma….

Whenever encountering Elaine, she was either ready to cook, dance or play Spades – most times all three. She passed down a strong work ethic and believed in keeping good credit. Elaine also stressed the importance of education, something that can never be taken away.

The Lord called Elaine home and she answered on August 4, 2026. Elaine was preceded by two grandsons – Demetrie Canty and Jimmie Lee Johnson, her great grandson – Donnelle Boyd, her brother and running partner Eddie Walker and his wife, Shirley along with their son Frankie. She is survived by daughters Patsy, Louise, Aletha, Eugenia and Andrea along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition, her siblings sister Dale and Michael, nieces and nephews and in-laws that never let her leave the family.
