The life of Elizabeth Massey Anderson was a beautiful reflection of dignity, grace, love, and unwavering commitment.
Her words were comforting, her spirit uplifting, and her presence a source of encouragement and kindness to the countless lives she touched. Family and friends deeply mourn the passing of this extraordinary woman on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Born on March 15, 1933, in Chester County, South Carolina, she was the fourth child and youngest sibling of the late Rev.
Plato Massey and the late Nannie Jones Massey. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jannie Massey Gaither and Jenny Massey Pearson; her brother, Plato Massey, Jr.; and her husbands, George E. McKeithen and Robert H. Turner.
The legacy of her compassion, intellect, elegance, and steadfast devotion to family, friends, and community will continue to resonate for generations to come.
After completing her public-school education in the Rock Hill School District, Elizabeth pursued higher education with remarkable determination and academic distinction. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master of Science in Education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Her passion for learning inspired her to continue graduate studies at North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and Oklahoma State University.
Mrs. Anderson devoted her entire professional career to the noble field of education, where she profoundly impacted on the lives of countless students and colleagues. She began her teaching career at Emmett Scott High School, where she taught science and inspired generations of young minds through her dedication, knowledge, and unwavering belief in the power of education. She later continued her service within the educational community and retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 1990 after years of exemplary and devoted service.
A woman of deep faith and civic responsibility, Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Throughout her adult life, she faithfully served and participated in numerous professional, civic, social, and community organizations. Her affiliations included the National Education Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the NAACP, the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections, where she served as a Precinct Judge, the American Bridge Association, the Memorial Bridge Club, the UKS Pinochle Club, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Retired School Personnel Association.
She was affectionately known by many beloved variations of her name Beth, Lib, Libby, and Liz names she carried with pride and joy throughout her life. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and genuine concern for others endeared her to all who knew and
In 1978, Beth married George Anderson of Charlotte, North Carolina, and together they shared many cherished years filled with companionship, love, and treasured memories.

"Jimmy" Massey; three nieces, Virginia M. Griffith, Wanda Pearson, and Beverly Massey; two grandnieces, Jennifer Massey and Sharlene Griffith; three grandnephews, William
T. Massey, Julian Pearson, and Darrell Griffith; two great-grandnieces, Addison Blanding and Alison Blanding; two great-grandnephews, William T. Massey, Jr. and Jayce T.
Massey; along with a host of cousins, sisters-in-law, devoted friends, sorority sisters, and all whose lives were enriched by her wisdom, generosity, and enduring love.
Though she has departed from this earthly life, her legacy remains firmly rooted in the hearts of those who knew her. Her life was a testament to faith, perseverance, service, and love. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
