Emma Lucille Mills Reid

On November 25th, 2023 at Piedmont Medical Center, a sweet spirit came to escort our matriarch, Emma Lucille Mills Reid, to her Heavenly home.

Lucille was born on February 14th, 1944 to the late Wardell Mills, Sr. and the late Aslee Sibley Mills Dewese. At a young age, Lucille joined Nazareth Baptist Church.  Later in life, she frequently visited Boyd Hill Baptist and Mt. Hebron.  Lucille was employed at HL Bower in Charlotte for many years until she resigned to be the caregiver for her mother, who fully recovered a brain hemorrhage.

In 1963, Lucille graduated from Emmett Scott High School.  Without formal training, she was an unlicensed beautician, uncertified childcare provider and a non-degreed psychologist.

Lucille was married to the late Charles 'Gene' Reid.  She was preceeded in death by sisters Lucinda Daniel, Mary McGleen, twin Louise Moorer, Jackey Cleveland, brother Wardell Mills, Jr.

Lucille leaves to cherish loving memories two daughters, Mischelle Mills Young (James), Thomasena Mills, son Charles Reid, Jr. (Kimberly), grandchildren Cierra Young, Jeffrey Mills (Charlotte), Laney Mills, Sienna Mills, JaKente Armstrong, Da'Majay Reid, Zynita Armstrong and Tyler Reid, four great-grandchildren, sisters Jinell Jones of Las Vegas, NV, Tina Mills, brother Dewey Mills (Barbara) both of Rock Hill, SC, sister-in-laws Ellaree Mills of Chester, SC, Hannah Byers, brother-in-law Ira Reid both of Rock Hill, SC, step-sisters  Rhina Whitlock of Charlotte, NC, Mattie Bennett of Charlotte, NC, Lucille Cooper of Oxford, NC, Roline Dukes of Wilmington, NC, Maglene Ragsdale, Katie Paige and Barbara Brice (Leon) all of Rock Hill, SC. A plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving family and friends.
