Mr. Eugene Mayer was born on July 28, 1942, in Kenner, Louisiana, to the late Eugene Joseph Mayer and Sarah E. Mayer. He peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allyson M.
Mayer, and his brother, Henry Victor Mayer.
Eugene was a graduate of Manual Arts Senior High School in Los Angeles, California. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Pepperdine University. A faithful servant to his country, Eugene honorably served in the United States Army and received numerous commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Award.
As an engineer, Eugene devoted many years to a distinguished career in Aerospace and Defense Contracting. He retired from Northrop Grumman Aerospace & Defense Company after ten years of dedicated service. He also gave generously of his time as a volunteer with the Veterans Administration.
Eugene was a devoted member of Greater Gaines Chapel AME
Church, where he faithfully served in the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry and supported several other church ministries.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Juanita Ellison Mayer; his children, Michael Franklin, Michelle Mayer, and Eugene Mayer, all of Los Angeles, California; his beloved grandchildren, Chloe Mayer, Shakel Franklin, and Heavenly Franklin; his in-laws, Roy Ann Ellison Gaither of Winnsboro, South Carolina, Warren Barber and Rev. Willie J. Ellison (Star) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, MacArthur Ellison of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Rev. Leroy Ellison, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends, including Alfred Gragg, James Young, Charles McCall, Theodore Robinson, and Henry Jackson.
Eugene's legacy of service, dedication, faith, and love for family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
