Evelyn Evonne Mcclure Young

Evelyn M. Young departed this earthly life on Friday March 7, 2025, at Pruitt Health Skilled Nursing Facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was a native of Chester, South Carolina.

She was born on December 14, 1952, to the late James Mitchell and Janie Mae McClure.

Evelyn was educated at Fairfield and Emmitt Scott School.

She worked at York Technical College where she retired in

2016. She never met a stranger and would routinely encourage students to do their best and never give up. After retirement, she served as a caregiver with Senior Helpers Health.

Evelyn joined Nazareth Baptist Church at an early age. She later became a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board, Pastor's Aid committee, and The Hymn choir. She traveled faithfully with the choir. Evelyn represented Boyd Hill where she was named the Queen for 2007 SRBA Usher's Ministry program and first place for the Rainbow Tea event.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Hazel Anderson, siblings, Willie Arthur McClure, Robert McClure, James Mitchell Jr., and Jimmy Lewis Mitchell.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her fond memories with her three sons, Willis (Anna), Benjamin (Lisa), and Bisharria Young; seven grandchildren - Jessica, Jada, Delainey, BryAnna, BJ, Josh and Ava; and one great-granddaughter, Dream; sisters-in-law, Lois McClure and Hattie McClure; special aunts, Willie Bell Blake and Ella Mae Smith; "sister" cousins, Sally Price and Doris Hinton; neighbors, Reggie, Rhonda, and Andrew Pearson and caregiver, Deborah Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
