George Davis

March 31, 1930 — January 22, 2024

George Davis, a man of unwavering faith and a pillar of strength and kindness departed this world on January 21, 2024, at the age of 93.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and wisdom that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Born on March 31, 1930, in Rock Hill, SC, the son of the Late Isaiah and Carrie Davis.  George served his country in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War.  On December 24th, 1953, he married his beloved Freedonia Roddey, and together they embarked on a journey that spanned 69 years. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and although she preceded him in death, their bond remained unbroken.  George was a devoted family man who cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. He imparted valuable lessons through his actions, teaching the importance of hard work, compassion, and resilience. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in his 3 daughters and grandchildren.

Deeply committed to his faith, George joined Flint Hill Baptist at a young age.  He served as a deacon, trustee and usher at Flint Hill Baptist Church earning accolades for his unwavering dedication to the church community.  His soulful voice led and enriched the Flint Hill Gospel Chorus and Hymn Choir, uplifting the congregation in praise and worship.  George applied his skills as a carpenter and maintenance professional at Celanese Corporation.  His hands not only crafted structures but also a legacy of hard work, diligence and dedication providing for his family.

George was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Freedonia Roddey Davis, his parents Isaiah and Carrie Davis, siblings, John Davis, Willie “Sonny” Davis, Soloman Davis, great-grandson Alvin "Tre" Murdock III

His memory will be cherished by his loving family, his three daughters, Debra Chisholm (Ronald) of Catawba, SC, Phyllis Wilson (Theo) of Charlotte, NC and Georgette Hutchinson of Rock Hill, SC; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. 1 sister Lellar Bowman, Winston Salem, NC; 1 brother Jessie Davis, Rock Hill, SC, 5 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
