Greta Lee Dunn

Mrs. Greta Janet Lee Dunn passed away peacefully at Chandler Place Assisted Living and Memory Care in Rock Hill on August 31, 2023, after a brief period of declining health. She was just shy of her 102nd birthday which would have been September 9th. She was a daughter of the late reverend Robert Fleming Lee Strong, having married the late Reverend C.H. Strong after the death of the late Reverend Robert F. Lee, "Mrs. Jessie" as she was affectionately dubbed, was an illustrious personality. Mrs. Dunn was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was the seventh of nine children born to Reverend and Mrs. Robert F. Lee and the last remaining child. Her death ends the first generation of
offspring from the union of Reverend Lee and Jessie Lee Strong.

She received her elementary schooling in the elementary division of the former Emmett Scott High School. Having completed the high school of Emmett Scott, Mrs. Dunn enrolled in Friendship Junior College where she earned the Junior college degree of Associate in Arts. Later, Mrs. Dunn went to Kingston, New York to work in the factory of Barkley Knit Wear for a year as a file clerk. She returned to Rock Hill in the 60’s. She accepted employment in Rock Hill School District Number Three as a
fourth-grade teacher at Sunset Park Elementary school. She later met and married William (Bill) L. Dunn of Birmingham, Alabama in 1966 and together they went to Jefferson City, where he was a professor of history at Lincoln University. After leaving Jefferson City, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. The late Dr. William Dunn became a professor at Bethune Cookman University and Greta taught fifth grade at Longstreet Elementary School until her retirement in 1983.

Mrs. Dunn was a contributor through other mediums. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church in Daytona Beach, where she was a member of the Celestial Choir, Missionary Ministry, Sunday School, Deaconess Ministry, Tribe of Reuben and Outreach Ministry. She was also a member of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in Rock Hill where she was awarded Woman of The Year in 2017. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Life Member of the NAACP, and the Senior Citizen Board.

She leaves to  mourn her departure numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews, friends, adopted members of the Cain Family of Rock Hill and the Wise family of Port Orange, Florida, along with dedicated friends Mrs. Cindy Ferguson, Mrs, LaSaine Yates, and Ms. Barbara Boulware.
