Mrs. Hattie Belle Potts was born to the late William Barnette and Janie Barber Barnette on August 7, 1938. She departed to His eternal home on October 1, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph W. Potts, and her sisters, Connie Cale and Mary Ferguson.
Hattie attended schools in the Rock Hill School District. She worked for 30 plus years in the Fort Mill School District where she retired as the Assistant Manager of Food Services.
She was married to the love of her life, Joseph (Joe Willie) Potts for 50 years, though they were together a total of 57 ½ years.
She was a member of Catawba A.M.E. Zion Church in Catawba, SC. She served numerous roles over the years including class leader and trustee.
Hattie loved to cook and was known for her cakes. Her pound cake, red velvet cake and honeybun cake were just a few of her many delicious desserts. She loved to feed people and seeing them enjoy her food just brightened her day. She also enjoyed gardening and had a yard that could have been on the cover of Better Homes and Garden. She enjoyed talking daily to her cousins Patricia Jones and Ruby Mackey.
Those left to cherish her fond memories are her daughters Phyllis Barnette of Henrico, VA, and Jerdawn Potts of Rock Hill, SC ; sister-in-law, Linda Potts of Fort Mill, SC; brother-in-law, Bobby Potts (Ida) of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughters, Chloe Barnette and Destini Barnette (Messiah), both of Richmond, VA; a great-grandson ,Zylon Barnette of Richmond, VA; She also leaves her lifetime best friend (who was like a sister), Conzella (Ernest) Witherspoon to cherish precious memories.
In addition to the above, fond memories are also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, Godchildren, church members and all who knew her.
We also would like to acknowledge T’Aisha Blachard, the staff of Rock Hill Grove Assisted Living and the staff of White Oak Manor for the outstanding care they provided for Hattie over the years.
Hattie will forever be treasured and missed by all those who loved her.
