With deep love, praise, and heartfelt adoration, we honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Hazelene Reid, affectionately known as "Cookie Reid." A devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Cookie peacefully entered her eternal rest on June 13, 2025, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born on July 21, 1960, in Rock Hill, SC, she was the beloved daughter of Mary Reid and the late Hazel Reid.
Cookie was a light in the lives of everyone who knew her, a joyful, caring, and generous soul whose presence brought warmth and love to all around her. Her absence leaves a deep void, but her memory will live on forever in our hearts.
Cookie attended the public schools of Rock Hill SC and played softball with Saint Mary's softball team. Her true passion was in the kitchen. She spent many years cooking at Anna J's Restaurant, where her food not only nourished your body, but it brought comfort, love, and a sense of home. Known for her generosity, Cookie often opened her doors to anyone in need, offering not just a meal but kindness, laughter, and unwavering support. She would give her last without hesitation, always putting others before herself. Saying "no" simply was not in her nature; her kindness and selflessness knew no bounds.
Cookie truly loved life and found joy in the simple pleasures. She could often be found watching her favorite shows Lifetime, BET, The Price Is Right, and The Steve Harvey Show, playing cards, or completing a crossword puzzle with ease. She cherished time spent with her family and her close-knit group of friends lovingly referred to as the Chicken Coop. Her quick wit, infectious laugh, and sense of humor lit up every room. One of her favorite sayings, "You don't want to do nothing, do you?" never failed to make people laugh.
Cookie had a deep compassion for the elderly and was known for her nurturing spirit, always ready to lend a hand, offer wise advice, or simply sit and keep someone company. She was the life of every gathering, effortlessly spreading joy and love wherever she went.
Above all, Cookie loved the Lord. She accepted Christ as a young adult and lived her life with quiet but unwavering faith. She embodied love, resilience, and grace, and leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and laughter that will never be forgotten.
Cookie was deeply devoted to her family. Her greatest pride and joy were her two sons, Kemont Reid and Justin Reid, who will carry forward her love and light. She is also survived by her cherished siblings: one brother - Heyward Eugene Reid of Rock Hill, SC, sisters - Gwendolyn Kelley (Steven) of Waldorf, MD; Jackie Mills (Patrick); Annette Reid, and Lisa Reid Page, all of Rock Hill, SC.
Her memory will be treasured by her aunts: Geneva Brice (Claremont, NC) and Minnie Brice (Claremont, NC), Hannah Byars (Rock Hill, SC); Gracie Reid (Rock Hill, SC) and Mary Reid (Rock Hill, SC); her uncles: June Brice (Claremont, NC) Jack Brice (Hickory, NC), and Ira Reid (Rock Hill, SC). Cookie also leaves behind five nephews, three nieces, and seven great-nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly, along with a host of cousins, extended family, and friends who adored her.
Cookie lived fully, loved deeply, and gave selflessly. She will be remembered always for her huge heart, sharp humor, and the joy she brought to every life she touched.
Her life was a testament to these scriptures:
Matthew 5:16 (NIV) "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Matthew 25:35-36, 40 (NIV) "For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick, and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
