Henry Etta Sitgraves of Rock Hill S.C passed away at 75 years old on August 5th, 2023. She is survived by her two children, Jerome V Morrow II and Kenya-Necole Graupe, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Growing up on Hagins Street, she was nurtured by the loving care of her late Grandmother, Mary Alice Sitgraves, and late Grandfather, John H Sitgraves. Her neighbor and lifelong friend, Mary Walker, fondly recalls affectionate memories of her childhood, emphasizing her supportiveness and devotion to her grandmother.
Her strong-willed nature was more than a mere trait; it was a compass that guided her life. Her zest for life and love for adventure was a deep-seated desire to explore the unknown and challenge the ordinary. She demonstrated unyielding curiosity in both personal and professional pursuits, inspiring many who knew her.
She received an associate degree in education from Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill and continued her studies at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. With her adventurous spirit, she blessed all with her wit, charm, and presence.
Henry was the first African American female police officer in the Rock Hill police department in 1976. She then joined the US Army Reserves in 1979 and was moved to Active Duty in 1991. All her accomplishments are a testament to her drive to help others and forge her own path in life.
