James L. "Pete" Massey

James L. “Pete” Massey, Sr., was the first of four children born to Johnie Mae McClurkin. He quietly passed away to his Heavenly reward on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Hospice and Community Care. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jamel Massey, and his bonus dad, David L. McClurkin.

He was educated in the public schools of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He enjoyed fishing, landscaping, car detailing, hunting, boating, and spending time with his family.

James also enjoyed helping people. He often attended Flint Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Dennis Douglas Massey of the home; his son, James Massey, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC (from a previous marriage to Vera Wike of Concord, NC); bonus son, Breon Wright of Columbia, SC; bonus daughter, April Clark of Concord, NC; grandsons, Chance Massey of York, SC and Jahmir Massey of Rock Hill, SC; two brothers, David Marc McClurkin of Rock Hill, SC and Darryl B. McClurkin (Johnnie) of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister, Susan Brice (Devon) of Albany, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
