Mr. John Clowney was born on April 27, 1928 to the late John Clowney and Victoria Johnson Clowney, in Chester, South Carolina. He transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home, Sunday, June 8, 2025, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.

His heart was dedicated to service, working tirelessly with the Feed the Hungry Program, where he played a vital role in helping those in need within his community. John was a member of the Sons of Light Masonic Lodge #61.

John dedicated 43 years to his work at Celanese, where his contributions were greatly valued. He will be remembered for his warm smile, infectious laughter, and the countless memories created with his family and friends.

John's passion for cooking was legendary, as he delighted family and friends with his culinary creations. He also had a green thumb and found joy in gardening, nurturing plants that thrived under his care.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughters, Annie Burris, Johnie Mae Moore; four grandchildren, Angla Clowney, Richard Moore, William Burris and Sylvia Burris.

John leaves to cherish his devoted wife of 55 years, Josephine Gladden Clowney, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter; daughters, Brenda Massey, Joanetta Clowney, Josenna Clowney, Jamisha Clowney all of Rock Hill, SC; one son, Jerard Clowney of Rock Hill, SC; his god-daughter, Shirley Clowney-Troy of Baltimore, MD; twenty-one grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, forty-five great-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, John Gladden and Bobby Ray Gladden; four sisters-in-law, Ann Clowney, Ruby Crawford, Nancy Suber (Mack), and Ella Joyce Gladden; a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
