John T. “Bra Boy” Hope passed away on January 14, 2026. He was sixty years old. He was born in Chester County, South Carolina, and confessed his lovefor Jesus Christ on August 5, 1976, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina. He was educated in the Chester County School System and graduated from Lewisville High School in Richburg, South Carolina, Class of 1984.
John was employed at Frito-Lay in Charlotte, North Carolina for eleven years.
He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, dedication, and love for life’s simple pleasures. He was well known for his strong character, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to the people and passions that mattered most to him.
John was a lifelong diehard, devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, win or lose. He supported his team with pride and enthusiasm. He took pride in raising pit bull dogs, which reflected his appreciation for strength, loyalty, and companionship. In his spare time, John found peace and satisfaction in working on his cherished 1976 Chevy pickup truck, a project that brought him both joy and purpose.
Affectionately known as “Bra Boy”, John will be remembered for his authenticity, work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him. His memory will continue to live on through the stories shared by family and friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus “Hiram” Burris and Odessia Walls Hope; and his sister, Geneva W. Walls.
He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy, his sons, Travis Strong of Chester, SC, Derrick Bogan of Charlotte, NC, Cory Hope and Antwaun
Caldwell, both of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Denarris Strong and Autumn Strong of West VA, Tristen Strong, A’lexis Strong, Nylah Strong, Carson Strong, and Olivia Strong, all of Chester, SC, Kaliyah Hope of Fort Mill, SC, Kendrick Strong of York, SC, and Ajani Kai Caldwell of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, Herman “Tim” Hope of Taylor, MI, Jermaine Hope of Rock Hill, SC, and David Roseboro of Elkton, MD; sisters, Belinda Walls of Suffolk, VA, Tawanna Hope (Marvin), Estelle Worthy, Margaret Crawford Parson-Willins (Ken), Earnestine Gordon (David), and Doris Hinton, all of Rock Hill; special friend, Mae Stewart of Lancaster, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and caring friends.
