Obituary

Josephine W. White passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. Born on June 15, 1931, in Sharon, SC, she was the beloved daughter of Irene Pickenpack and Samuel Wilson.

Josephine attended George Fish High School and was known throughout her life for her strong work ethic, loving spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family. She began her career with Springs Fort Mill Plant in Fort Mill, SC and later spent many dedicated years working for Lance in Pineville, NC. Even after retirement, she continued serving others through her work at Hardee’s and Walmart, where her warm spirit and kindness touched many lives. She was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the hymn choir.

Josephine was married to James White Sr., and together they had four sons: James White Jr., Vernon White, Melvin White, and Andre White.

Known by many as a true fashionista, Josephine carried herself with grace, elegance, and style wherever she went. She especially loved dressing for church, often wearing beautiful hats, stylish suits, and heels that reflected her vibrant personality. You may have spotted her outside, tending to her plants, cutting her grass and picking up pecans, or walking around the block in Paradise, getting her exercise in. She was also an extraordinary cook and baker whose kitchen was always filled with unforgettable aromas. Her homemade biscuits became legendary, drawing crowds during the breakfast rush at Hardee’s. Family and friends were often welcomed to her German chocolate cakes, apple pies, stickies, dumplings and golden fried chicken lovingly prepared and waiting on the kitchen table. Her home overflowed with plants, delicious food, laughter, and love for everyone who entered.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Samuel Wilson Jr., Robert James “RJ” Wilson, Morgan “MW” Wilson, and Arthur Wilson; her two sisters, Mary Mageline Hart and Geraldine Potts; and her beloved sons, Melvin White and Vernon White.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted sons, MSG James White Jr. US Army (Ret.) (Ruth B.) of Columbia, SC and Andre White of the home; her honorary daughters, Yvonne Williams of Washington DC and Dora Perry of Fort Mill, SC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever honor and treasure her memory.

Her legacy of love, strength, style, faith, and generosity will live on in all who knew and loved her.
