Lumumba Kimathi “Kee” Lightner

July 30, 1975 — October 23, 2025

Lumumba Kimathi “Kee” Lightner, born on July 30, 1975, in Boston, Massachusetts, entered eternal rest on October 23, 2025, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Kee was the beloved son of Woodrow Abercrombie and Martha Ann Lightner, and a proud graduate of Northwestern High School. From his earliest days, Kee’s caring spirit shone brightly. He was known for his kindness, his ready laughter, and his unwavering love for his family and of course the Dallas Cowboys. Kee never met a stranger, and his warmth and light touched everyone he encountered.

Throughout his life, Kee walked in faith and embraced each day with conviction—seizing opportunities, forming lasting friendships, and sharing God’s love through his actions. Whether at work, within his family, or among friends, he left an enduring impression of integrity, generosity, and steadfast dedication.

In his personal life, Kee treasured his loved ones above all else. He made time to listen, encourage, and uplift others, embodying a heart that reflected Christ’s compassion and grace.

Kee was also one of the founding members and coaches of the Carolina Storm AAU basketball team. More than just a coach, Kee, served as a mentor to every player he guided. He deeply valued the team and everything it represented. Luckily, earlier this year, Kee was able to lead the team to win their first National Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Kee is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Nadia Hooper-Lightner; his cherished children, Jewel, Jordan, Nigel Lightner, and Chozen (fur baby), all of the home; his sisters, Shana Graham (Ti Ti) and Wafrika Lightner; his parents, Woodrow Abercrombie and Martha Ann Lightner - Abercrombie; and his mother-in-law, Gloria Hooper-Green (GG), who embraced him as a son and enriched his life with steady support and unwavering care.

He is also lovingly remembered by his aunts, Helen Root (John) and Vanessa Watkins (Floyd); his uncles, Johnny Lightner (Pamela) and Jimmy Lightner (Sandra), all of Rock Hill, South Carolina; as well as by a host of aunts and uncles from the Abercrombie family, cherished cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him, and countless other relatives and friends who held a special place in his heart.

Though his passing leaves a deep void, we find comfort in knowing that Kee has found rest in the arms of the Lord. His legacy of compassion, strength, and faith—the footprints he leaves behind—will continue to inspire and guide all who knew and loved him
