Martha Annette Stroud-Jones, a beloved daughter, devoted mother, faithful servant, and cherished friend, departed this life to enter eternal rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She was born on February 4, 1958, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to Mr. Maceo Jones and Mrs. Jeanette Stroud Beckham, and was lovingly raised in Edgemoor, South Carolina. She grew up in a Godly home where faith, hard work, and love were the guiding principles of daily life.
Martha was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. Johnny Stroud and Mrs. Genette Beckham-Stroud, her beloved cat Yellowjacket, and her stepfather, Mr. Omar Gettys—all of whom had a profound impact on her life.
She received her early education in Chester County and was a proud member of the Lewisville High School Class of 1976. She went on to further her education at Winthrop University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Her passion for helping others led her to a long and impactful career with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, where she served for over 20 years and retired as a Supervisor for Adult Protective Services. Her work was marked by compassion, diligence, and a deep commitment to protecting and advocating for others.
Beyond her professional service, Martha was active in her community. She was a dedicated member of the Delta Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, in Rock Hill, SC, where she held many roles including 2nd Vice President and Community Service Chair. She embodied the ideals of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood with distinction. She was also a faithful member of Faith Christian Ministries, where she was recently celebrated as Member of the Year in honor of her selfless contributions to the work of ministry.
In addition to her parents, Martha leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory. Martha was a devoted mother to her children, Thomas Jones, of the home, and Rosalyn Jones (Mario) of Edgemoor, SC. She shared a loving partnership with her longtime companion, Reo Howze, also of the home.
Affectionately known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren — Danajah Dunifer, Aniya Jones, Demario Dunifer Jr., Bryan Thomas Jones, Ta’Leah Dunifer, Mariah Dunifer, De’Marjae Dunifer, and Toyri Jones — she poured out unconditional love, support, and wisdom. Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, Jasai Price and A’mania Caldwell; each of whom brought light and joy into her life.
She is survived by her loving sisters: Barbara Pendergrass (George) of Rock Hill, SC; Janet McCrorey of Edgemoor, SC; and Rev. Cynthia Gaston of Rock Hill, SC; her stepmother, Mrs. Dorshia Jones; her uncle, Edward Jones, and her aunt, Catherine Jones, both of Rock Hill, SC.
To her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately called “Aunt Mas”, a name that captured her nurturing and joyful presence. Martha is remembered with love by her nephews: Robert D. McCrorey of Rock Hill; Robert McCrorey III (Renee) of Rock Hill; Jack Jermaine Cherry of Charlotte, NC; and Pastor Dontavius Williams of Edgemoor, SC; her niece: Latoya McCrorey of Chester, SC; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, Sorors, and dear friends.
Martha will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her giving heart, her radiant smile, and her steadfast love for family and community. Her life was one of purpose, filled with grace and compassion. Her memory will live on in all whose lives she so beautifully touched.
