Mildred Elizabeth Burris, peacefully departed this life on March 8, 2025, at the age of 79. She was surrounded by her loving family in her hometown of Rock Hill, SC.
Mildred was born on November 6, 1945, to Abraham and Alberta Stowers. She had a heart for helping others, which led her to a lifelong career as a caregiver and a devoted servant of the Lord. She worked at J.P. Stevens Textile Corporation until its closure and later at Winthrop University's Janitorial Services until her retirement.
Beyond her career, Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married the love of her life, Johnny Burris, in 1966, and together they built a beautiful family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A faithful servant of God, Mildred loved her church and took great joy in worshiping, serving on the Usher Board, and fulfilling her role as a Deaconess. She also treasured time with her sisters, sharing stories with her nieces and nephews, and never missed a family event.
Mildred leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her beloved husband, Johnny Burris; her daughter, Angela (Shannetta); and her grandchildren: Johntavious, L'Brisha (Will), Brittany , and Kevin Jr. (Armani); as well as nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Bertie Mae Williams, Linda Stowers, Melvin Stowers (Jeannette), Martha Stowers, Ola Mae Franklin, and Gloria Johnson. Her extended family includes Kevin SR sisters-in-law: Dianne Robinson (Jerry), Margaret Sawyer, Louise Crawford (Albert), and Sheila Buchanan, and brothers-in-law: Nathaniel Daniel (Evelyn), Freddie Daniel (Barbara), and John Buford (Linda). She will also be deeply missed by her dear friend, Ms. Sonya Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ira Durham, and her niece Amanda Martin.
Mildred's kindness, wisdom, and laughter will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
