Patricia L. James

Patricia L. James was born in Sellers, South Carolina on August 14, 1938 to the late Beatrice Burgess Dixon and John Dixon. She passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 86 in Jonesboro, Georgia in the care of her loving daughter, Malaika. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Patricia lived a life of grace, strength, and unwavering faith.

Patricia graduated from Latimer High School in Latta, South Carolina and moved to New York for better opportunities. Patricia dedicated her professional life as a skilled and respected legal secretary, known for her diligence, integrity, and quiet excellence in Brooklyn, New York.

She spent her life nurturing not only her family but also the many lives she touched through her work, church and community. She was a proud past Worthy Matron of the Daughters of Faith Chapter #72 of Brooklyn, New York and past Secretary of the Queen Bathsheba Chapter #31 of Brooklyn, New York of the Order of the Eastern Star, a testament to her commitment to service and community.

Patricia found deep joy in the beauty of everyday life. She loved traveling to new places, tending to her plants, dressing with flair, and watching her favorite television programs. Her Sundays were reserved for worship attending church was one of her greatest sources of joy and spiritual connection.

Patricia was the youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother George Gibson, Jr. and sister Vinnie Mae Johnson. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her daughter, Dr. Malaika Syphertt; her son, Michael James; her grandchildren, Christopher James and Laila James; her great-grandson, Danger James and a host of family and friends.

Patricia's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
