Mr. Selwyn M. Bright was born on October 28, 1969 to Willie and Katie Bright of Rock Hill, South Carolina. On January 1, 2026, he was called home to be with the Lord.
Selwyn received his education through the Rock Hill School District, and he graduated from Northwestern High School. During his time there, he was recognized as a standout athlete, anchoring the defensive line known as the “Legion of Doom”. While in high school, he would spend his summers working as a lifeguard at the local pool, where he was known for his antics.
After graduating high school, Selwyn briefly attended Lees-McCrae college before sustaining a neck injury that cut his football career short.
Shortly thereafter, Selwyn enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country for 7 years. This service included a tour in Operation Desert Storm. After his tour of duty Selwyn, took a job with InChem, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring as the Lead Chemical Operator.
Selwyn will be missed by many. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Willie and Katie Bright of Rock Hill, SC; his loving wife, Toyka S. Bright of Chester, SC; his children, Kia Bright of Killeen, TX, Sedric Jennings (Ermela), of Fort Worth, TX, Brendan Johnson, Brianna Bright both of Rock Hill, SC, Brandon Simmons (Shanicqua) of Bridgeport, CT, and Jonathan Simmons of Derby, CT; grandchildren, Kyler, Kacen, Ashton, Chloe, Kobe, Callie and Krue; his siblings Irene Pickard of Kingstree, SC, Rosemary Brown (Benjamin) of Columbia, SC, Willie Bright Jr. of Kingstree, SC, William Bright of Rock Hill, SC, Sheldon Bright of Rock Hill, SC, and his baby sister Tamyra Hogg (Solomon) of Chester, SC; a special aunt, Carolyn Ann Burris of Rock Hill, SC; a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
