Solomon Davis, Jr.

May 5, 1948 — January 19, 2025

Solomon Davis Jr, 76, peacefully departed his life on January 19, 2025 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, devotion to his family, and his passionate love for the Dallas Cowboys. Born on May 5, 1948, in York County, SC, Solomon was the son of the late James Solomon Davis Sr and the late Tommie Mae Mobley Davis. Raised in the Flint Hill community of Rock Hill, he shined as a multi-sport athlete at Emmett Scott High School, where his legendary left-handed jump shot made him a standout. He graduated with the Class of 1966 and went on to attend Friendship Junior College, earning an associate degree. In 1970, just one day before receiving his draft notice, Solomon volunteered to serve in the United States Air Force. That same year, on May 9, 1970, he married the love of his life, Lutricia Rawlinson. Solomon served honorably during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the military in 1973. After his military service, Solomon began a remarkable 34-year career with General Tire (now Continental Tire) in Charlotte, NC, where he ultimately retired. Known for his love of music and vibrant energy, Solomon could light up any room with his signature phrase, “Party over here”, and his one finger raised in the air, signaling that the fun was about to begin. Though a man of few words, he expressed himself through dance, laughter, and meaningful moments with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and “PawPaw”, devoted himself fully to creating cherished memories with them. In addition to his parents, Solomon was preceded in death by his brother, James Mobley, his beloved brothers-in-law (Walter Rawlinson Jr and Ronny Dean Rawlinson), and his dear sister-in-law (Diane Rawlinson Lightner). He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lutricia, who was his travel partner, his “baby”, casino buddy, and faithful companion for daily episodes of Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right. He is also survived by his siblings: Aaron Mobley (Willie Bell), Larry Davis Sr. (Lois), Carrie Jean Davis, Thomasina Wade, Patricia Jones (Frankie) and Shannon Rodriguez; his aunt, Leila Bowman and his uncle, Jesse Davis (Josephine); his beloved brother-in-law: Wansley Otto Rawlinson and his dear sisters-in-law: Reverend Patricia Berry, Barbara Brice, and Darlene McMullen (Andre) of Virginia Beach, VA. Solomon leaves a lasting legacy through his children: April Davis Buckson (Tommy), Solomon Demario Davis, and Anitra Davis Walker: and his grandchildren: Shakaria Buckson, Demontre Buckson, Jaylen Davis, JaBoris Walker, Tanisha Buckson, and Achilles Davis. He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and lifelong friends. Solomon’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
