Thomas Glenn Pharr affectionately known as “Uncle T” made his transition on January 17, 2026. A decorated Vietnam veteran, Mr. Pharr leaves behind a legacy of service and pride in his African American Heritage. After his time in the military, he worked for Springs Mills, the Herald Sun newspaper, and T.J. Maxx. for years before retiring to live with his sister and 3 devoted nieces in NC and Virginia. Mr. Pharr is preceded in death by his mother, Frances Ardella Pharr, his brother in-law, David Lee Hinton and his eldest niece, Dana Yvette Hinton. He leaves behind his cherished daughter, JaVonda B. Palmer and beloved grandson, Harith N. Palmer, along with his loving sister, Lucia Pharr Hinton. Thomas also enjoyed several first cousins, John Lucius Pharr, Jr. (Sandy), Steven Jackson Pharr, Deborah Pitts Collins, John Henry Pitts, Jr., Timmy Alston Pharr (Sandman), and Maurice Osawa Pharr, Jr.; also two nieces Tamikka Michelle Hinton and Lucianne LeJoy Hinton and one great-niece, Ayana Vonia Hinton. Mr. Pharr had a host of talents, a self-taught pianist, saxophone player, smooth dancer, and longtime Oldies but Goodies music trivia enthusiast. There was never a dull moment while you were in his presence. He had a story for every occasion and gained the nick name Santa Claus for always having a bolstering giant smile on his face accompanied by a big jolly belly laugh. Uncle T made friends everywhere he went, the family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the caring, kind and gracious caregivers he has had throughout the years. Thank you all for your caring heart, dedication and companionship, you filled “Uncle T’s life with laughter and Joy. You helped him continue to enjoy and preserve some of his lifelong pleasures and hobbies. The Family wishes to extend their words of comfort to all who knew and loved “Uncle T”.
