Virgie L. Jackson of Rock Hill, South Carolina, was born on January 16, 1956, and entered eternal rest peacefully at home on February 15, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Philip Jackson, Sr., and the late Azalea Siegle Jackson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert Jackson, Sr. and Bobby Jackson, as well as her beloved nephew, Gilbert Jackson, Jr.
Virgie was a strong women of deep faith, strength, and unwavering love. She was known as a quiet women, but when she spoke, her words carried meaning, conviction, and truth. She did not speak often just to be heard, she spoke with purpose, and those who knew her respected her wisdom and sincerity.
Virgie loved her family and God more than anything. Her life was a reflection of her faith, and she carried herself with grace, a strong conviction to fight for truth, and a servant's heart. Although she was petite in stature, she fought for what she felt was right like a giant, especially when it came to children or those who were disadvantaged.
A lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, Virgie's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She shared her gift of song in the Hymn and Mass Choirs and the YWA of Union Baptist Church. Virgie was also a devoted Women's Convention and the County-wide YWA of the Sandy River Baptist Association. Virgie was also a devoted Sunday School and Bible study attendee, and she loved to decorate the church at Christmastime. Her spirit of service extended to the church kitchen, where she was renowned for her delicious banana pudding and "stickies", beloved staples at countless gatherings. Her community involvement also included singing in the annual MLK Mass Choir.
Virgie also worked in retail for several years and was famously skilled at finding the best deals. She knew firsthand the "secret recipe" to finding best sale on any quality product, and family members often relied on her for shopping advice and smart buying tips.
Virgies's love for children was evident throughout her life, much like her love for plants and flowers. She found joy in watching things grow, nurturing each one with patience and care as she tended to her many beautiful blooms. In the same way, Virgie poured that same gentle dedication into the lives children.
She spent most of her adult years nurturing and supporting students at Castle Height Middle School, Serving as a Special Education Teacher Assistant. Virgie was known for treating every child as her own, offering a firm yet loving presence that guided, corrected, and encouraged. With compassion and kindness, she helped those who needed it most, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of countless students and families, an impact that will never be forgotten.
Those who cherish her memory include her loving children: son, Derrick Jackson (Kamaria), and daughter, Nikita L. Jackson. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Nikita's son, Caleb and to Derrick and Kamaria's children: Dorian, Kayla, Megan, Naomi, Desiree, Faith, Isaac, and Joshua. She also leaver her brothers, Phillip Jackson, Jr. (Dorothy) and Marvin Jackson (Benita); sisters, Barbara Robinson (O'Henry) and Louise Crosby (James); sister-in-law, Stacey Jackson; aunts, Vergie Roseboro (Robert), Louise Wise, Florence Pearl and Dottie Burns (Alphonso); a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Special friends who were like sisters, Rev. Elizabeth Cathcart, Diane Simiril, Vanessa Boyd, and Barbara Hope. Virgie was a mother figure to many and they all held a special place in her heart.
Virgie's strong legacy of love through service will live on through her family, her church, and all those whose lives were made better by her perseverance, her strength , and her steady faith. She will be dearly missed, but her love will remain forever.
