Mr. William “Bill” Thomas Jr. entered the world on November 11, 1940, to the late William Thomas Sr. and Floree Anthony Thomas in Rock Hill, SC. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the home of his beloved nephew, Michael Anthony (Norma).
After the early passing of his mother, Bill and his siblings were raised by their grandparents, Harrison and Hannah Anthony. He was educated in York County schools and became a member of New Zion Baptist Church during his early life. He worked
on the family farm as his grandparents were sharecroppers. He was later employed
by JP Stevens Industrial Mill.
Bill was a happy and content person who took pleasure in the fact that the Lord Blessed him to see each new day that he lived. He often read the Bible and liked listening to gospel music and hearing sermons from ministers during church services as well as on television. He had several favorite hang-outs around town including Burger King, General Dollar and a few downtown diners. He had no problem asking others for rides or taking the city bus to wherever he wanted to go. He loved family and took pride in remembering the birthdays and ages of others.
Bill was preceded in death by two sisters: Bessie L. Gordon and Willie Mae Anthony; also three brothers: James Robert Anthony, Ollie Anthony Thomas and Robert Marshall.
The family that he leaves to share memories is one brother: Frances Marion Anthony,
one brother-in-law: David Gordon; six nieces: Carolyn Pate (Pete), Lachelle Means (Tony), Gwendolyn Lindsey (Harold), Quanta Anthony, Angela Jones (Tracey) and Phyllis Nelson (Earl). Also five nephews: Michael Anthony (Norma), Thomas Anthony, Mark Anthony, Ollie Anthony Jr. (Lisa) and Andre Thomas (Octavia).
