William Derek Johns

William Derek Johns, 74, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024. Born on March 14, 1950, William was the eldest child of Adolph and Geneva Johns.

William grew up in Rockaway Beach, NY, where he attended public schools. After relocating to South Carolina, he dedicated 38 years of his professional life to Greif Brothers, where he was known for his diligence and commitment. Following his retirement, William found joy in his second career at the Hilton Charlotte Hotel, where he continued to make a positive impact with his warm and welcoming demeanor.

A man of deep faith, William was a devoted member of Gethsemane Church in Rock Hill, SC. His love for his church and his pastor, Bishop R.B. Wilson, was evident in his active participation and unwavering support. William's vibrant spirit made him a social butterfly. He delighted in dancing and bringing laughter to those around him. His joyful presence and infectious laughter will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

William's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Althia; his two sons and one daughter; and his two stepdaughters. His memory will be cherished by his siblings and the many friends and community members whose lives he touched.

William Derek Johns was known by many and affectionately loved by all. His kind heart and joyous spirit will be deeply missed.
