Ms. Willie Mae Anthony entered the world on September 1, 1937, to the late Floree Anthony Thomas and Willliam Thomas Sr. in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She departed this life Saturday October 14, 2023.
After the untimely passing of her mother, Willie Mae and her siblings were raised by their grandparents, Harrison and Hannah Anthony. She
graduated from Emmett Scott High School, Rock Hill, SC in 1956. After graduation, she worked at a variety of jobs at the hospital before working her longest tenure at Celanese Fibers; CA Chemical Control Room Operator from 1964 until retirement in 1999. While at Celanese, she was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician and served on the Fire Brigade committee.
Throughout her life, she belonged to numerous organizations within the church and community. During her youth, she joined and became a devoted member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She cherished the camaraderie she shared between fellow Eastern Star and Red Hat Society members as they would gather for dinners and events around the city. One of her favorite past times was spending time with family and friends. She adored her children and grandchildren, always eager to spend time with them.
Willie Mae had a generous and loving spirit as she would open her heart and home to those she encountered over the years. Her calm and easy-
going presence was always graced with a warm and compassionate embrace. She always spoke of others in high regard and saw the good in those she encountered. Her outlook on life was always positive as she rarely complained about any trials or tribulations she may have endured during her lifetime.
Willie Mae was proceeded in death by her sister, Bessie Anthony Gordon, and three brothers James Robert Anthony, Ollie Anthony Thomas (Washington, DC) and Robert Marshall. Words cannot express how she was a dedicated and loving mother to her children – Micheal Raynard
Anthony (Norma), Thomas Kelvin Anthony, and Ann Lachelle Anthony- Means (Tony), who all live in Rock Hill, SC. Her pride and joy were her
grandchildren – Tavisha Rice-Bookman, Micheal Raynard Anthony, Shenequa Mechelle Anthony, Dorian Rice, Jacquelyne Monique Durham, Jarmell Daison Anthony, Steven Harrison Anthony, Nicole Rochelle Holmes, and Malcolme Mason Anthony.
She leaves behind two brothers, William (Billy) Thomas Jr. and Francis Marion Anthony, brother-in-law, David Gordon; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Anthony as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family of Miss Willie Mae Anthony conveys their deepest gratitude and appreciation for all acts of love and sympathy that have been extended to them during their time of bereavement. May God richly bless each and every one of you.
