Woodrow Abercrombie, affectionately known as BaBa and Lumumba, was born on October 20, 1949, in Leeds, Alabama. On July 25, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his home and family, he peacefully answered God's call and entered into eternal rest.

Lumumba was the beloved son of the late Woodrow and Luella Abercrombie. He was a proud graduate of Robert R. Moton High School. Gifted with exceptional athletic ability from an early age, he excelled in numerous sports throughout his childhood and high school years. His talent, discipline, and competitive spirit earned the admiration of teammates, coaches, and friends, while shaping the strength of character, integrity, and resilience that would define his life. To know Lumumba was to experience his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He had the ability to bring people together, making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated. Whether through his wisdom, infectious laughter, encouragement, warm smile, or larger-than-life personality, he had a gift for lifting spirits and creating lifelong memories. His life reflected compassion, humility, perseverance, and a steadfast love for family.

After retiring, Lumumba embraced one of the greatest seasons of his life—devoting himself to his family. He found immeasurable joy in gathering with those he loved, sharing stories, offering guidance, celebrating life's milestones, and creating cherished memories that will live on for generations. His greatest legacy was never measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the love he gave so freely, the wisdom he shared, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, strength, and unwavering presence.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Shana Graham (Ti-Ti), Wafrika Lightner (Waf), and Tanzania Campbell; his devoted spouse, Martha Lightner Abercrombie (Ashaki); his beloved grandchildren, Jewel, Jordan, Nigel Lightner, Paul Dottin-Campbell, Jeremiah, Jerrell, Madison Dottin-Carter, and Trinity Campbell; his loving sisters, Beverly Crawford (Lewis), Gwendolyn Aber, and Sylvia Bowie; his brothers, Lewis Abercrombie and Emmanuel Abercrombie (Denise); his cherished extended family, including Helen Root (John), Vanessa Watkins (Floyd), Johnny Lightner (Pamela), and Jimmy Lightner (Sandra); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him.
